[applause] thank you. this, being a sunday morning, i want to begin by saying that this is the data god has made, that us rejoice and be glad. let us rejoice and be glad that as we gather here in the white house, barack obama is being officially sworn in as the president of the united states. earlier this day, joe biden was sworn in as vice president of the united states. tomorrow, it will be a ceremonial, but today it is official. what a great day. what a great day that we are celebrating emily's list success in strength in numbers. women leading the way. isn't that exciting? 15 more women senators in the united states senate. that is remarkable. in this cycle, we have 80 more democratic women in the house bringing our number to 61 women in the house. problem. black caucus said we don't have entitlement problem. leave entitlements alone. nancy pelosi says we still have a revenue problem. don't leave the tax hikes alone. what is amazing these guys don't address a problem. this weekend we get ready to essentially coronate a president, there is no evidence anywhere among anyone in washington they even see a problem. nowhere in any of the inaugural events is so much as passing bought of spending period. more like a four-day spending palooza, celebrates wonder of government and those that befit from the government the woman who has a job thanks to the auto rescue. the dad's whose family is protecting thanks to the health care law. i think you get the point. austerity isn't the point. more government is. this inaugural weekend is all about a blueprint for revving it up. the white house says it is low-keying the inaugural festivities because of economy, somehow cutting yourself down to two presidential balls doesn't exactly strike me as sacrifice, as much as a slap in the taxpayer's face. to joe perry, marco and chris. not exactly partying. m

. the big topic today was gun control. christin ayers is in washington and she spoke with nancy pelosi and jean quan this evening. >>> a bloody end to the hostage drama in algeria today. algerian special forces stormed the gas plant where islamic militants were holding workers hostage. >> reporter: these hostages were able to escape from the gas plant before algerian special forces launched their final assault. state media reported that a number of foreign hostages survived, including at least four americans. but in the chaos, it's not yet possible to get the exact figures. u.s. military aircrafts evacuated some survivors to a nato air base. pictures of the siege showed gunmen rounding up hostages. this worker says terrorists told him you have nothing to do with this. you're algerians and muslims. we only want the foreigners. bob dudley said 14 of its 18 foreign employees at the plant were safe. >> we are not able to confirm the circumstances of four of our employees. tragically, we gravely fear we will be seeing fatalities from this group. >> re

house speaker john boehner. we will have congresswoman nancy pelosi. we will have congressman kevin mccarthy. we will have senator carl levin. on both sides of the aisle, they will be here honoring folks who will be coming who have been hand picked with the help of the dod and folks at the pentagon, wounded warriors, actually i was just talking to one of the organizers tonight, don. she told me one of the widows from s.e.a.l. team 6 will be here tonight. so we will try to talk to her. and a couple of awards will be handed out. just quickly, we learned a number of the tuskegee airmen will be near attendance and perhaps perhaps, the big headliner, is lynyrd skynyrd, good old southern rock guys. they will be here presenting and introducing some of these tuskegee airmen. look out for that we will be here. we will bring you the party live from the warner theater, the red, white and blue ball. don lemon, you jealous? >> all right. oh, yes, of course i am. but you should be jealous because i'm going to the hip-hop ball as well. you have got your party shoes on, you are appropriately dressed.

weeks later, he sits down with nancy pelosi and harry reid, passed 780 billion in stimulus, no one having read the bill and the republicans gut it and the speeches were wrong. the president tomorrow is going to sound right, okay? if he follows through on tomorrow's speech, he has a chance to be eisenhower. i don't think he will. i think he wants to be roosevelt in his second term. but that's neither here nor there. if congressional republicans can reach out on issues, take the case of gun control, i think the house judiciary committee ought to hold hearings in chicago. this is the president's hometown. the mayor is the president's former chief of staff. they have very strict gun control. and they are the murder capital of the united states, 516 dead last year. i think having a hearing on what happened before we rush into the next, you know , panacea, would be a useful exercise on a non-partisan basis. >> this idea and the other idea the speaker talked about about members of the black caucus going into republican district is kind of fascinating. part of the problem we have is the di

and nancy pelosi in december of 2007. he said the economy is slipping, i need a stimulus and they worked with him to give him the kind he can sign. then 2008, the terrible crisis and it was a very partisan thing in which the bush administration got more support from democrats and republicans in the final vote. then comes the election of barack obama and mitch mcconnell's announcement that his number one agenda item is to defeat president obama. we have, i think, a productive 2009 and 2010 and then in 2010, a group gets elected in the house, in particular, we don't believe in governance. not totally pessimistic. the way to go we've seen in the last three major issues in the house, a split within the republican party where main stream conservatives of the bob dole variety have aligned with the majority of democrats. they've been opposed by a majority of republicans in the house, but not of the whole house and speaker boehner, to his credit, has been allowing a coalition to come together and i hope what happens is that the main stream conservativism of the republican party continue to fight
